MEDIZIN - Bloodless surgery in a private setting / experience from Nigeria (Innocent Okoawo - MD)

Are the skills and equipment for bloodless surgery available in the private setting in a low-income country?  Dr Innocent Okoawo takes us through his very interesting experience in bloodless surgery in a private setting in Nigeria.

Dr Okoawo is the Medical Director of Safehands Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, the only private hospital in the subregion that offers highly specialized bloodless care in several subspecialties.  He possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine from the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College, a Postgraduate Diploma in Anaesthesiology from the Postgraduate School, College of Medicine, University of Lagos,  and a Diploma and Fellowship in Endoscopic & Minimal Access Surgery from World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons.  Dr Okoawo is a foundation member of the Nigerian faculty for the American College of Surgeon’s Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course.  He is certified in Basic and Advanced Concepts of Patient Blood Management by the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM), and is a member of the Society.  Dr Okoawo is also a member of the Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Society, and several other professional societies.
