Topical haemostats are invaluable tools for stopping or minimizing blood loss - the second pillar of bloodless surgery. In this lecture, Dr Prabhu Nesargikar outlines the various types of topical haemostats and how to use them effectively in bloodless surgery.
Dr Nesargikar is Senior Consultant in GI and Peritoneal Cancer Surgery, Bariatric Surgery and Advanced Endoscopic Surgery at HCG Hospital, Bengaluru. He is the clinical lead for Preventive Oncology at HCG, and also is HIPEC and PIPAC Surgery specialist for peritoneal cancers across HCG centres. He specialises in GI cancer, from organ preserving endoscopic surgery to robotic surgery.
Dr Nesargikar has done his Basic and Higher Specialist Surgical Training from United Kingdom and obtained his FRCS from Royal College, Edinburgh. He also has an MA in Medical Education from Keele University, and MD ( in Research) from Cardiff University. After obtaining his CCT, he subsequently moved to Singapore and worked in National University Hospital as Assosc Consultant in GI Surgery. During his stint in Singapore, he gained further specialist experience in Gastric Cancer Surgery at SNUH, Seoul, S.Korea. Dr Nesargikar has won many accolades including the ‘Young Investigator Award’ at ESOT, Congress Belgium and fellowship awards at Japanese and Korean Gastric Cancer Congress.
