Dr Frank is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, where he specializes in anesthesia for vascular, thoracic, and transplant cases. Dr. Frank is the Medical Director of the Johns Hopkins Health System Blood Management Program and he also directs the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery, a program for patients who wish to avoid transfusion.
His recent work relates to clinical studies in the area of collection and analysis of transfusion data from electronic medical records and methods for using such data to improve practice. He is currently on the Editorial Board of the journal TRANSFUSION, and he has served on the Board of Directors for AABB and SABM. He is also Chair of the Committee on Patient Blood Management for the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
