MEDIZIN - Bloodless care in critical care medicine / education is key for the anaesthesiologist! (S Frank MD)


In this seminal talk, Dr Steven Frank discusses the important role of education in bloodless care in critical care medicine.


Dr. Steven is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, where he specializes in anesthesia for vascular, thoracic, and transplant cases. Dr. Frank is the Medical Director of the Johns Hopkins Health System Blood Management Program and he also directs the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery, a program for patients who wish to avoid transfusion.  


His recent work relates to clinical studies in the area of collection and analysis of transfusion data from electronic medical records and methods for using such data to improve practice.  He is currently on the Editorial Boards for the journals TRANSFUSION and Anesthesia Analgesia, and he has served on the Board of Directors for AABB and SABM. He has also been Chair of the Patient Blood Management Committee for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He has been chosen as a member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence, and has earned the Distinguished Teaching Award from the medical students at Johns Hopkins.


Dr Frank is an outstanding member of the Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Society and received the Award of Excellence from the Society in 2021 “for his excellent contributions to the science and practice of Bloodless Medicine & Surgery
