Dr Etim Ekanem describes how bloodless surgery can be done successfully for one of the traditionally bloody pathologies in gynaecology (uterine fibroids) - and with better outcomes.
Dr Etim Ekanem is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Chief Medical Consultant in Gynaecology Oncology unit of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) in Nigeria. He was Head of Department and Examination Board at various times. Currently he is the chairman of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Patient Blood Management Committee (UCTH – PBMC), Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), Departmental COVID 19 Incident Management Committee (C-IMC). He has headed the Committee of Prevention of Post partum Haemorrhage (C –PPH) and departmental Infection Control Committee.
He is editor and reviewer of many national and international Medical Journals. He has written books on the Obstetric and Gynaecological Practice in the Tropics, Infection Prevention and Control in Hospital Setting. He attended many national and international conferences and presented on his research works particularly in the area of obstetric haemorrhage and infection prevention. He has published over 60 papers in peer reviewed learned journals.
