Not all patients decline blood transfusion for religious reasons. Some are aware of the adverse outcomes of blood transfusion and appreciate bloodless care as an informed choice. Iylia Husni provides a patient's perspective on the vital issue of offering bloodless care as part of compassionate and ethical medical care.
Iylia is a Patient Advocate, Startup Builder, and Social Activist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She studied International Business in London as a scholar, delving straight into the business world by joining a range of local fashion startups as a partner and brand strategist/consultant, alongside joining a tech startup briefly which focused on research and bridging AI technologies from Europe to ASEAN countries.
Beyond the business world, Iylia’s passion for making an impact on human lives led her to serve as Chief Operating Officer of Accelerate Global, a social enterprise dedicated to addressing youth unemployment and underemployment across six countries. After a year in this endeavor, she expanded her wings towards a national scale by being a part of the founding team, and the youngest female in the team at that time, of the first youth-led political party in Malaysia, MUDA.
In 2021, she had her very first surgery, experiencing a substantial loss of blood during the op. Her experience brought awareness brought awareness to her of how underinformed a patient can be when making medical choices about their own self. After a successful conference last July in speaking up about the issue and stigmas that surround Iron Infusions from a patient perspective, she plans to do her best to continue to raise awareness and combat stigmas surrounding iron infusions, a vital medical procedure that can have a profound impact on patient well-being.
